Gokyo Lake Trekking is one of the most adventurous and demanding treks in Nepal. The Gokyo Lake region which is at the head of the Dudh Koshi Valley provides an alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp trek. Gokyo, also known as a hidden valley with gorgeous blue lakes in the lap of Himalaya has its own status among the adventurous feelings. The entire area is blessed with the abounding natural beauty of shimmering Lakes.

Gokyo Lake Trekking is a more peaceful trek through the Sherpa heartland that gives plenty time for acclimatization with opportunities to enjoy the mountain panoramas from beautiful alpine areas. The main highlight of the trek is our ascent of Gokyo Ri from where we gain superb views of Everest and the 8000m peaks of Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The Gokyo lake trekking further goes through the landmarks of Everest region in the company of magnificently elevated mountains, friendly Sherpas, colourful monasteries with prayer flags, the famous Namche Bazzar, Sagarmatha National Park and many other places. Every year hundreds of trekkers desire to visit the Gokyo Lake. Beyond, we can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of four above 8000m massifs and few other mountain ranges from the best view point of Everest Region, the Gokyo Ri. This is because panorama from here is more spectacular than from Kala Patthar viewpoint. You will get to see lots of things during the trek. Such as the stone structures with the inscription “Om Mani Padme Hum” which means “Hail to the jewel in the lotus”. It is a chant honoured by Buddhists. Also, we will get to see the Mani walls and beautifully shortens.

Himalaya Recreation Treks & Expedition welcomes you to explore Everest region and Gokyo Valley. We are 100 percent sure that you will adore the beauty of this region and the hospitality of people here. Call us and we will make your Gokyo Lake Trekking remarkable one.

Day 02- Sightseeing around Kathmandu and trekking preparation day

The second day of the travel itinerary has been allotted for sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley and also shopping around the places like Thamel, New Road, Durbar Marg, etc. in the Capital city. There are plenty of world heritage sites and temples in Kathmandu that will occupy the tourists for the day. You could also buy some mementoes to your loved ones from Kathmandu as a token of love from the land of gods and temples. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 03– Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2610m) 4hrs

On the third morning, you will board a flight to the Lukla Airport, also commonly known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport. It is a wonderful mountain flight and in around 30 minutes you will reach Lukla while enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountains during the flight. After landing at Lukla, you will take light breakfast and start your trek to Phakding. After around 3 hours of mild trek, you will reach Phakding village where we will be staying overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 04– Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 6 hrs
After having breakfast in the morning at Phakding, we resume our trek and continue to hike along the Dudh Koshi River while ascending through Himalayan Pine and Doedar Cedar forests. Given the increasing altitude, you will be hiking slowly while enjoying the surrounding natural beauty of mountains. After almost six hours of trek, we finally arrive at the popular village of Namche Bazaar. The village of Namche has remained a historic trading point for the Nepalese and Tibetan traders who exchange salt, dried meat and other consumable and textile items. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Namche Bazzar.

Day 05– A day for acclimatization at Namche
The fifth day of the trek will be spent in Namche Bazaar acclimatizing to the altitude and the conditions. A day for acclimatization is strictly advisable for prospective trekkers as they can also spend a day in Namche visiting the local bazaar of Namche, talking with Sherpas and learning about their culture. Or if you are not much tired and are ready for a few hours of trek, then you can also go to the Everest Hotel for the great panoramic view of the Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, and others. Located at an altitude of 3900m, Everest Hotel is the hotel that is situated at the highest altitude in the world. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 06–Trek to Dole (4190m) 5 hrs
After acclimatizing for a day in Namche, we resume our trek on the sixth morning. The trail is easy initially as we cross valleys along the rhododendron, juniper, and large coniferous forests. During spring, the forests are great to see as that is the time when rhododendrons bloom and the fragrance lingers on your nose for many days. We also see Sherpas bringing their herds of Yaks for grazing on the green pastures. After almost five hours of trek, we reach Dole, the destination for the sixth day. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 07–Trek to Machhermo (4470m) 5 hrs
The trail now steadily becomes difficult as the trekkers will have to negotiate thick forests, the increasing altitude and the lack of settlement areas. The trail continues to climb up along the side of the valley until it reaches Machhermo, a small and beautiful village in the Khumbu region. Sherpas believe that the region of Machhermo is the home for Yeti, a mythical snowman. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 08–Trek to Gokyo (4790m) 4 hrs
On the eighth day, we climb just around 300 meters and reach the wonderful Gokyo Valley. Gokyo is a small settlement area on the base of Gokyo Ri or the peak. Ngozumpa glacier, the largest glacier in the Himalayas, lies in Gokyo region. Five mountain peaks of more than 8000 meters of altitude—Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Lhotse—are visible from Gokyo. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 09- Climb to Gokyo Ri (5357m) and trek to Machhermo (4470m) 8hrs

After having breakfast in the morning on day nine, we further ascend along the trail to Gokyo Ri or the Gokyo Peak. Gokyo Ri is a mountain peak in the Khumbu region of Everest. Its altitude is 5,357 meters. Gokyo Ri is mostly popular for the panoramic views of several mountain summits in the Khumbu region including the Mount Everest. After observing the fascinating view from the Gokyo Ri, we descend back to Machhermo, a resting place for trekkers along the Everest trail. Machhermo also lies in the Dudh Koshi river valley. Overnight stay a guesthouse.

Day 10- Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 6hrs
The next day, we resume our downhill trek from Machhermo to Namche. During the course of the trek, we meet many trekkers and Sherpas on our way as many will he heading to the Everest Base Camp from Namche. It is a relatively long trek and hence we stop at several temporary tea-houses to drink tea. We also cross many Sherpa settlement areas and villages. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Namche Bazzar.

Day 11- Trek to Lukla (2860m) 5hrs
Upon having breakfast at morning on the eleventh day, we head towards Lukla along a descending trail. In between, we come across several small Sherpa settlement areas and we can also stop for some tea during the course of the trek. Talking with Sherpas will also give an opportunity to learn about their long-standing culture and tradition. After arriving at Lukla, we spend the rest of the day at a guesthouse, resting and preparing for the early morning flight tomorrow.

Day 12- Fly back to Kathmandu
The next day, you will board a flight back to Kathmandu while enjoining the 30-minutes of exhilarating mountain flight. The rest of the time in Kathmandu, you will be shopping and buying souvenirs to your loved ones. Overnight stay at a hotel.
