Kathmandu Day Hiking has become very popular among the trekkers and is most preferred by the beginners. It is an opportunity for a short trek into the Himalayas. Kathmandu Day hiking displays the best of Nepal’s rural culture and beautiful Himalayan views that can be enjoyed with simple preparation. It is more like and lengthy walk that has a lot to offer, culturally, visually and physically. Convenient location and ease of access make it one of the best treks for those who have limited time to spend in Nepal.
Kathmandu Day Hiking starts with a bus ride to Sundarijal. We take you to some most popular hiking destination of Kathmandu Valley. The trail passes through Mulkharka, Chisapani, Manichaur, Nagarkot and ends at Changu Narayan. Hiking in Kathmandu and nearby areas presents the beautiful rural culture in the shadow of the stunning peaks extending from Dhaulagiri in the west to Everest and Kanchenjunga in the east. We will walk 6 to 8 hours in a day. During the hike, we can see the beautiful forest of Rhododendron, waterfalls, streams, the view of the Kathmandu Valley and another natural wonder that definitely contributes to making Kathmandu day hiking a perfect short hike. Some of the major attraction of the Kathmandu Valley is a visit to Changu Narayan Temple which was built during the 5th century, the beautiful view of the sunrise from Nagarkot and the lush green Shivapuri and Nagarjun National Park. This three main historic cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur with many, old palaces and temples, angles traditions and legends make it a veritable living museum. Nagarjuna Day Hike:
Existing to the northwest of Kathmandu, Nagarjuna Hill places itself at the close proximity of capital city as it can be accessed through mere 15 minutes of driving. Once arriving at the foothill, we will follow the steeply raising trail for about 2 and half hours to arrive at Jamacho Peak (6300ft). The hill took its name after the great Buddhist Saint Nagarjuna who had meditated in the cave existing on the hill and became enlightened. Along with the famous Nagarjuna Cave, the cave of Buffalo Buddha is yet another fascinating site to be visited while in Nagarjuna Hill. The scenic views of mountains and Kathmandu Valley that the hill offer are amazing.
Nagarkot to Changu Narayan Day Hike:
Nagarkot is the hotspot among tourists arriving in Nepal. It is the hill station located at a mere 32km distance far from Kathmandu that is famous for the finest views of the sunrise over the mountain that it offers. Along with the sunrise view, Nagarkot also offers some wonderful views of mountains like Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shankar, and Mount Everest. Enjoying the views from Nagarkot, we will take the day hike that prolongs downhill through forest and settlements to UNESCO enlisted Changu Narayan Temple. For a night, we can either stay in a hotel at medieval city of Bhaktapur or drive back to Kathmandu.
Phulchowki Day Hike:
Phulchowki is the tallest hill in Kathmandu Valley that exists 14km south of Kathmandu. Early in the morning, we will take 45minutes of the scenic drive to the Godavari which is the botanical garden. It is at the Godavari that our wonderful hiking begins as we ascend the hill through woods for about 4hrs to arrive at the summit. The hilltop allows pleasant views of mountains like Annapurna Range and Gaurishankar. Phulchowki is famous for bird watching and snowfall during a winter season.
Shivpuri from Budhanilkantha Day Hike:
Existing to the north of Kathmandu, Shivpuri is the second tallest hill around Kathmandu Valley. We will begin the day hike package with a drive to Budhanilkantha where lies the huge statue of Lord Vishnu in the sleeping position. Taking the hike through the raised path, we will arrive at the border of Shivpuri forest from where we continue to follow the steep hill upward to make it to Shivpuri Hill that offers the finest views of Kathmandu Valley and exquisite mountains.
Champadevi Day Hike:
Located at 2278m altitude height, Champadevi exists to the west of Kathmandu. We will begin the hike from Pikhel which lies on the way to Dakshinkali. Choosing the trail that heads north, we will pass through Neupane Danda and proceed further through pine woods to the top of Champadevi. Enjoying the panoramic views of mountains along with the exotic Kathmandu Valley view, we will make the return trip through Bhamesmar to Kirtipur from where we will take a drive back to Kathmandu.
Changunarayan to Sundarijal Day Hike:
Taking 45minutes of a pleasant drive along the wide road from Kathmandu, we will head towards Changunarayan. Offering our respect to UNESCO enlisted temple of Lord Vishnu, we will start our fascinating hiking towards Sundarijal.
