Tsum Valley Trek is one of the adventurous treks in the Manaslu region trekking in Nepal, and Tsum Valley is also well known as the Hidden Valley which is a land of monasteries and beautiful villages. It lies on the northern part of Manaslu near the Nepal-Tibet border which used to be a restricted area until 2008. This place is totally inhabited by Tibetans who migrated 100s of years ago. It is a challenging trek in Manaslu with the world’s eighth highest peak and crossing Larkya La pass and involving the Tsum Valley.

Tsum Valley Trek is the spiritual region, a preferred Himalayan ancient valley well-known in the northern region of Gorkha district of Nepal also known as a touch of Tsum Valley Trek Manaslu. As you may not know “Tsum” starts from the Tibetan word “Tsombo” which means “shining” or “bright”. It is such a trip in remote Nepal that should not be missed in any way. This is one of the absolutely highlighted trips with strong, friendly, hospitable people, a living Buddhist culture and untouched wildlife which is possible because of Buddhist prohibitions on hunting. The culture of people living here is traditional and true. The unique culture of Tsum Valley has remained intact. The inhabitants of this area are direct descendants of Tibetan who are immigrants and they settled here during the early 16th century. Therefore, their speech, way of dressing and customs are exactly similar to Tibetans in the North of Nepal.

Tsum Valley is the home of unique historic monasteries which includes Rachen Gompa and Mu Gompa, Mani and prayer walls. The tribes here celebrate Buddhist festivals, perform ritual burning of juniper sense to purify the air, place prayer flags for the happiness of all the sentient living beings install Mani Walls. Tsum Valley Trek Itinerary for 2023/2024:  

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)

Day 02: Drive to Arkhet Bazar and Trek to Soti Khola (530m) 8 hrs

Day 03: Trek to Machha Khola (825m) 6hr

Day 04: Trek to Doban (1070m) 6-7hrs

Day 05: Trek to Philim (1590m) 6-7hrs

Day 06: Trek to Chumling(Lower Tsum) (2130m) 6hrs

Day 07: Trek to Chhokangparo(Upper Tsum) (3030m) 7hrs

Day 08: Trek to Nile/ Chhule (3360m) 7hrs

Itinerary Detail

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu:
Once you arrive at the premises of International Airport at Kathmandu, you will be received by a staff member from ‘Keen Adventures Treks’ and then transferred to the hotel through the bustling streets of Kathmandu. Upon arrival at the hotel, you will be briefly explained about your itinerary package which will be followed by the welcome dinner.

Day 02: Drive to Arkhet Bazaar and trek to Soti Khola
Our journey begins by following the Pokhara Highway. Later, we will part with the highway and take the road which continues through Dhading Besi to arrive at Arkhet Bazaar. Traveling through the beautiful pasture land that is full of lush green vegetation, we will walk along the bank of Budi Gandaki River. Enjoying the beautiful view of Shringi Himal, we will take the trail that stretches through pretty small villages of Gurung and Magar community to reach to the bank of Soti Khola.

Day 03: Trek to Machha Khola: 
Crossing the bridge, we will proceed through the colorful woods where we will get the opportunity to view wildlife. From the forest, We will make an advance to Gurung Village at Labu Besi from where we will make it to Machha Khola after undergoing through the series of ups and downs. Machha Khola Village is located above Machha Khola stream.

Day 04: Trek to Doban:
Leaving Machha Khola, we will follow the trail through Tharo Khola. Crossing the suspension bridge over Budhi Gandaki River, we will make it to Doban which is located at the confluence of the Shiar Klola flowing from the east and Sarpu Klola flowing from the west.

Day 05: Trek to Philim:
A trek on 6th day begins by following the rocky path. Later, we will climb the hill and undergo the series of ups and downs to arrive at the river. The trail continues further through the forest to arrive at the large Gurung Village of Philim located at 1590m altitude.

Day 06: Trek to Chumling(Lower Tsum):
Choosing the trail that meanders upward through the hill, we will reach the ridge. Enjoying the scenic views of surrounding landscapes from the top, we will take the upward trail through Ganesh Himal Base Camp from where the path moves through villages of Lokpa and Gumlung to Chumling which is located on the southern face of Shringi Himal.

Day 07: Trek to Chhokangparo(Upper Tsum):
Crossing Serpu Khola, we will proceed through the village of Gho to arrive at the plain land. The trail continues further through the plain land to Chhokangparo. Chhokangparo is popular for allowing the panoramic views of Ganesh Himal Range to the south and Buddha and Himal Chuli Peaks to the south- west. Chhokangparo is the comprised of two tiny villages of Chhokang and Paro.

Day 08: Trek to Nile/ Chhule:
Early morning trek will lead us to Piren Phu Cave which is popularly known as the pigeon cave. Piren Phu Cave is located near to the village of Burji. It is in Piren Phu Cave where the great Saint Milarepa is believed to have meditated before being liberated. Passing through the cave, we will make it to the Nile which is the last northern village in Upper Tsum Valley. Nile Village exists at the western bank of Shiar Khola which is about 20minutes of walking distance far from Chhule.

Day 09: Trek to Mu Gompa:
Initiating from the western section of Tsum Valley, the trekking trail undergoes series of ups and downs to make it to Mu Gompa located at 3510m altitude which was founded in the year 1895 AD. Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region and exists at the highest and farthest point in Tsum Valley.

Day 10: Rest day in Mu Gompa:
The 10th day is taken as the rest day. We will utilize the opportunity to have a side trip to Dhephyudonma Gompa which is one of the oldest monasteries in Tsum Valley. Dhephyudonma Gompa is run by Lama Scrap of Nile Ladrang from the Kangin sect. Traveling to the Base of Pika Mountain (4865m) is also the better alternative.

Day 11: Trek to Rachen Gompa:
Lowering down the hill, we will pass through the verdant woods to arrive at Chhule. Enjoying the spectacular views of colossal Punchen Himal, we will head to Rainjam at an altitude of 2600m. We will visit Rachen Gompa to view its rich architectural design.

Day 12: Trek to Dumje:
Starting early in the morning, we will choose the path that gently descends to pine woods. Crossing the woods, we will follow the easy trail with scenic views to Dumje. Dumje is a small settlement with about eight houses and adjoining cattle sheds. We will stay overnight at  tea houses.

Day 13: Trek to Philim:
Progressing through few pretty small villages across Ripchet, Samba Tingding and Chhupyang, we will choose the trail that stretches through waterfalls to Philim where we will stay overnight.

Day 14: Trek to Tatopani:

After a gentle descent from Philim, we will walk along the bank of Budhi Gandaki River to arrive at Khorlabesi. A short trek from Khorlabesi will lead us to Tatopani, a natural hot spring. Taking bath in Tatopani is believed to cure skin diseases.

Day 15: Trek to Arkhet Bazaar:
From Tatopani, you will pursue the trail that passes through small villages. Walking past the terraced crop fields, we will choose the downward trail to Soti Khola where we will be staying overnight in the camp at the bank of Soti Khola. Crossing the bridge, we will move through the crop fields of the villages to make it to Arkhet Bazaar. We will stay overnight at a lodge in Arkhet Bazaar for the night.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu:
7hours drive with scenic views of rivers and hills will take us to Kathmandu after passing through the spots like Dhading Besi, Malekhu, Naubise, and Thankot. Once we arrive at Kathmandu, we will move back to the hotel where we will spend the pleasant night.

Day 17: Departure:
17th day will conclude our amazing ‘Tsum Valley Trek’. Our staff will assist in your last moment preparation and then convey you back to Tribhuvan International Airport from where you will take a flight to your desired next destination. We are happy to serve you.
